The Journey

House of Cave didn't begin with a business plan. It began with two very simple things: I love babies, and I love giving gifts.

Every time a friend had a baby I'd go overboard — the softest blanket, the little comforter, a book for the shelf, a card written by hand. I never liked the idea of a hamper that gets unwrapped and thrown out. I wanted the gift itself to be part of the nursery, something the family would still have when the baby was walking, talking, starting school.

So I made a trunk. A small, beautiful, hand-finished box you open like a treasure chest, filled with soft and useful things. Pink, blue, or neutral for the families who wanted to wait. Each one packed by hand in my Canberra studio.

People started asking for them. Then they started asking me to send them straight to the new parents, with a card, on their behalf — and that's really what House of Cave is: love, delivered.

The books and the prints and the workbooks all came afterwards, but the intention has never changed. Make it beautiful. Make it meaningful. Make it by hand.
